II Juruti Sustainability Meeting will be held on November 29th and 30th

The idea of the event is to evaluate and rethink the actions carried out so far by the Ingá project and reaffirm the commitment of all partners involved with the sustainable development of the Amazon.

The 2nd Juruti Sustainability Meeting will take place on the next 29th and 30th of November, bringing together public agents, companies, representatives of civil society organizations, academics and citizens interested in the agenda in a qualified discussion space. With the theme “Actions for the sustainable development of the Amazon”, the II Meeting will be held in Caju (Club Alcoa Juruti). It is carried out by the Sustainable Juruti Institute (IJUS), through the Ingá Project (Sustainability and Management Indicators in the Amazon).

The opening will be on November 29, at 6:00 pm, with registration of participants, welcome by Rebeca Cancio and Valdinei Júnio, from the IJUS Youth Board, and a lecture on the theme “Sustainable development and the challenges of the Amazon”, given by Francisco Itamar, president of Imazon (Amazon Institute of Man and Environment). The 30th, in turn, will be reserved for panels, in which the results of the projects being carried out in the region will be presented.

The idea of the 2nd Juruti Sustainability Meeting is to evaluate and rethink the sustainability of the actions carried out by the initiative so far, and also to reaffirm the commitment of all the partners involved. According to the IJUS, over the past few years, important partnerships in Juruti and the region have brought many positive results and impacts on communities and people's lives.

For the president of IJUS, Maria Raimunda Melo, thinking and acting in a sustainable way is the ability to create means to meet the basic needs of the present, without threatening future generations. “It means conserving and caring for natural and human resources without society exploiting them. Programming and evaluating social, environmental and financial issues are fundamental for the effectiveness of our actions aimed at sustainable development”, comments.

Patrícia Benthien, specialist in Project Management at USAID Brazil (United States Agency for International Development) participates in the event with the best expectations. “I hope that the second Sustainability Meeting will be a rich space for exchanges, reflections, lessons learned and celebrations about the last three years of joint work. The territory of Juruti brings together a special set of actors and institutions engaged in a common objective: sustainable development and conservation of the region's biodiversity”, analyze.

The Ingá Project, through which the II Juruti Sustainability Meeting is held, is made up of a multidisciplinary team formed through a collaborative arrangement between partner institutions that have been operating in the municipality for a long time. Already allying the social and financial sector, the IJUS promotes several actions with the aim of articulating strategies that strengthen activities to support the formation of local human capital, protection, conservation of native forests, restoration of degraded areas, support for entrepreneurship and the structuring of the observatory of sustainable development indicators.

The initiative relies on investments from USAID, Alcoa, the Alcoa Institute, the Partners for the Amazon Platform (PPA) and partnerships with the Vitória Régia Institute (IVR), the International Institute of Education of Brazil (IEB) and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT).
