Private sector platform promotes discussion on support and financing of businesses with a positive impact in the Amazon

November 2021 – The Partners for the Amazon Platform (PPA) launches the campaign today (03) Paths to the Amazon, which aims to strengthen the Amazon impact business ecosystem. Along with the campaign, the PPA Acceleration Thesis, a study carried out in partnership with Quintessa, an impact accelerator. The publication mapped out initiatives to support socio-environmental businesses and pointed out new possibilities for acceleration.

“Acceleration programs create favorable environments for entrepreneurs and help them in their development. We want to embrace different types of businesses that impact the Amazonian reality, seeking adherence to local issues and offering support to the wide spectrum of initiatives and solutions that already exist in the Amazon”, says Augusto Corrêa, Executive Secretary of PPA.

For Carolina Ochoa Koepke, project coordinator at Quintessa, the Acceleration Thesis provides an effective direction for the socio-environmental business agenda in the Amazon. “Collaboratively and together with experts, we identified key themes connected to biodiversity conservation and trends in the Amazon context related to Bioeconomy, Forest Restoration/Regeneration, Carbon/Climate and Sustainable Supply Chains. Based on this, 4 acceleration axes are being proposed: (1) for businesses in early stages, (2) in mature stages, (3) linked to forest restoration/regeneration and (4) undertaken by local and community populations”, he explains .

The Amazon rainforest needs new economic solutions to contain deforestation pressures and improve the quality of life for the more than 25 million people in the region. Since its foundation in 2017, PPA has supported different initiatives that support the development of entrepreneurs and businesses - from promoting new forms of financing for social and environmental businesses that normally do not find space in traditional financing - to acceleration programs that develop specific support methodologies for these enterprises.

In the coming weeks, PPA will promote in its digital channels a series of activities to deepen different understandings of impactful businesses in the Amazon. In addition to events, interviews and podcasts, the Platform will hold a free and virtual Workshop, focused on private sector representatives interested in contributing to this agenda to address existing gaps, strengthen links and investigate, in a complementary and strategic way, the different paths for the sustainable development of the region.

The Paths to the Amazon campaign will run from November to December 2021 on PPA's and partners' digital channels. For more information, just visit the website:
