On the occasion, the guests discussed topics such as supply, logistics, sustainable management of pirarucu and democratization of access to the product.

In her speech, Ana Britto shared her experience in the commercialization and management of pirarucu in the Médio Juruá region. She emphasized the importance of this practice for preserving the species, improving the community’s quality of life and protecting the territory, in addition to addressing the logistical and commercialization challenges of the product. “The more the community gets involved, the better the results. Since we started managing the fish, our quota has only grown. (…) It’s a long journey, but we are daring, seeking markets outside our region,” she said.

Chef Teresa Corção, founder of the Maniva Institute, spoke about her contact with the field, the gastronomic qualities and benefits of managed pirarucu and how this adds value to the end consumer. “It is very important that we value and take ownership of our heritage, which is Brazilian food, traditional to our culture. If we do this, we are helping the entire chain and contributing to the virtuous path of this food,” she said.

It was an inspiring meeting that highlighted the importance of resistance in generating income in the countryside while conserving sociobiodiversity.
