Revitalization of Rubber Extraction in the Amazon

Development of local organizations aiming at the fair resumption of the Value Chain in the territory

About the project

The project is carried out in partnership by Chico Mendes MemorialNational Council of Extractive Populations (CNS)United States Agency for International Development (USAID/Brazil)Partners for the Amazon Platform (PPA)Institute of Forest and Agricultural Management and Certification (Imaflora)Michelin Brazil and of the WWF-Brazil and WWF-France. Together, these institutions aim to revive the rubber production chain and, at the same time, promote socio-environmental development, preserving nature and strengthening indigenous and traditional communities, with fair remuneration for rubber tappers.

The work takes place in four Conservation Units in five municipalities: Canutama, Pauini and Manicoré, in the South of the State; Eirunepé, in the Southwest, near the Javari Valley; and Itacoatiara, in the metropolitan region of Manaus.

Objective

Improve the income of extractive families in Protected Areas that operate in the supply chain
rubber in the state of Amazonas, through assistance to cooperatives and associations
community, youth engagement in the rubber chain, inclusive trade policies and
equitable management of companies and in improving the production chain of native rubber in the Amazon.
